Wally delivered his and Devon’s baby girl, whom he doesn’t want to put up for adoption. Brooke played up to an uninterested Mark during a ski trip with Ellen and Dan. Chris wrapped Jeff around her little finger, impressing him to buy their own house. Mona was shocked that Erica is lining up disco investors who include Phoebe. Russ and Nancy dated. Billy Clyde and Edna joined forces to keep Estelle and Benny apart. Donna was haunted by Chuck’s delirious declaration of love for Tara. When his condition improved, he ordered Phoebe to begin accepting Donna as his wife. Maureen warned Ellen she’d cut off Mark without a penny unless Ellen dropped marriage plans. Tom hit the roof after learning Erica has been secretly continuing with her disco plans. He forced her to tell money-backer Maureen that the deal was off. Jeff was delighted Chris postponed their new house signing to attend Phil and Tara’s ceremony of ex-exchanging marriage vows, then they lost the house. Billy Clyde and Edna drugged Benny to make it look as though he’d spent the night with her. Erica offered to continue helping Maureen break up Ellen and Mark. Kelly rebuffed Eddie’s reconciliation offer. Kelly cared for Myrtle at home after Myrtle was briefly hospitalized with heart problems. Erica railed against Mona’s plans to join Charles in Rome. Billy Clyde and Edna’s set-up of allowing Estelle to find a drugged Benny in Edna’s bed backfired. Estelle and Benny reconciled and she went off to get a divorce from Billy Clyde. Wally insisted he wants to raise Bonnie, his and Devon’s daughter, and he made kidnapping plans. Problems between Chris and Jeff flared up again and she suggested moving to San Francisco. Phil was promoted to sergeant. Wally ran off with Bonnie, unaware that the baby’s system can’t tolerate formulas. Phoebe planned to surprise Charles in Rome, but Mona is keeping him company. Joe urged Jeff to join Chris, who moved to San Francisco and a better job. Kelly vowed to stay off the pep pills if God would save Myrtle, but she started experiencing withdrawal. Eddie seduced Claudette. Ellen realized that Brooke is on Mark’s trail. Chuck told Charlie to start calling Phil “Dad.” Phoebe called Mona a strumpet after finding her in Charles’ hotel room in Rome. Estelle phoned Benny with news about her Haitian divorce, but Linc said it won’t be valid unless Billy Clyde consents. Jeff followed Chris to San Francisco. Wally turned up at his mother’s home with Bonnie. Ma Harriett told Wally about the baby’s allergy, which was discovered in time. Phil was officially made a sergeant and Charlie called him “Dad.” Billy Clyde was upset about Estelle’s divorce action and threatened Donna with a gun to get her to reveal Estelle’s whereabouts. Kelly had drug-withdrawal nightmares.

Both Chuck and Donna nix Phoebe’s suggestion that he recuperate at the Tyler mansion. Mark’s mother, Maureen, lets slip Erica’s plans for disco to Tom. Erica calls off the business deal but is still determined to break up Mark and Ellen. Mark and Ellen have a gigantic row, and nearly call off their engagement. Kate suggests that Joe and Ruth have a baby. With an unhappy Charlie in attendance, Tara and Philip renew wedding vows.
Christina is furious over losing the new home because she went with Jeff to Phil and Tara's rerun of a marriage ceremony. Donna tells Billy Clyde that Estelle doesn't love him; he recalls his childhood and vows not to let Estelle mistreat him like his mother did. With Benny's money and against Linc's advice Estelle is off to Haiti to get a quick divorce. Mark is upset over Ellen's discussing their May-September romance with Paul — even though Paul gave no opinion. Named assistant manager of the Chateau, Eddie now is after Claudette's job. Phil decides he cannot force Charlie to love him. With the baby unable to tolerate formula, Devon must now breast-feed her. When Myrtle shows symptoms of heart trouble, Kelly blames herself. Convinced that Devon will never change her mind about giving the baby up for adoption, a desperate Wally kidnaps the baby and heads for St. Louis.
Devon is fearful the baby may die if Wally, who has taken her from the hospital, uses formula which she is allergic to. Wally names the baby Bonnie. Ellen realizes Brooke doesn’t really love Dan. Receiving his first visit from Charlie since he learned Phil was his real father, Chuck asks him to accept Phil but assures him he will always consider Charlie his first-born. Eddie threatens to tell Myrtle about Kelly’s dependence on amphetamines; fearful the news would upset Myrtle, Kelly vows to get off the pills. Christina leaves for her job as head of pediatrics in San Francisco – without Jeff.
Phil is promoted to sergeant. Charlie and Tara attend the ceremony. Arriving in Rome, Phoebe discovers Mona in Charles’ suite – they insist nothing is happening. Estelle obtains a quickie divorce, unaware that if she marries Benny, she could be considered a bigamist. Chuck nixes Donna’s idea to reaffirm their marriage vows as Phil and Tara did. Kelly realizes that she needs help to overcome her pill addiction. Frantic when he learns about Estelle’s divorce, Billy Clyde holds Donna at gunpoint. Before he can do any harm, he is disarmed and arrested by Phil.

Karen spotted Talbot retrieving Katrina’s identification note of Marco’s killer and was forced to take the stand and reveal that Marco was her pimp. Talbot was one of her johns, and she was his accomplice in Brian’s hit-and-miss run which was Talbot’s motive for killing Marco who knew. A revived Katrina identified Talbot as the guy who ran her down, and he was arrested. Pat attacked Talbot for her son’s murder. Larry was shattered by Karen’s confessions. Mario told Tina that Marco loved her. Dorian offered Dr. Ivan Kipling a hospital staff position. Callison dropped charges against Viki. Mario told Ina he wants to make up for Marco’s bad deeds. Dick Grant played peeping Tom on Pat and Adam. Karen and Larry separated and he figured Dorian was trying to replace him with Dr. Kipling because of Karen’s scandalous revelations. Dorian worried about Melinda’s sanity when Dorian spotted her drawing “jealous” sketches of Jenny and Peter. Jenny found racetrack tickets in Brad’s suit, but he insisted they were Adam’s. Katrina feared Talbot would have her killed. But Greg refused to help Talbot escape and he was nabbed. Carla and Ed’s marriage went downhill. Ed told Carla their marriage is kaput after they argued about her real reasons for “accidentally” slamming a door and breaking Jack’s fingers. Lynn flipped out with accusations about Peter and Jenny, and had herself recommitted to the sanitarium. Dorian was jealous when she saw Paul courting Gretel to get an interview with Adam. Dick was revealed to have an obsession for Pat. Dorian encouraged Ivan Kipling that he should replace Larry. Brad had doubts about Peter and Jenny. Mario consoled Karen after she failed to get Larry to forgive and forget. Tony and Samantha planned their wedding. Paul courted Gretel after he insisted he wasn’t Dorian’s property. Carla begged Ed for a reconciliation, but he moved into Ina’s boarding house. Brad went further into debt. Ivan admitted to Edwina that he married a younger woman, Faith, after being a widower. Anna poo-poohed Larry’s guilt feelings for Karen. Dick hid photos and mementos of Pat in his room. Dorian set up a hospital board meeting regarding Larry, who was temporarily retained.

On the stand, Karen admits to her life as a hooker and points the finger at Talbot Huddleston as her first John and names Marco as her pimp. In the courtroom Pat learns it was Talbot who ran down Brian. A shattered Greg sees his father, Talbot, arrested for the murder of Marco Dane. Larry is confused by the revelation of Karen's past and present. Paul insists that Gretel be more than a business acquaintance. Viki is set free and goes home to Joe, Kevin and Tina. Sadie warns Ed he will lose Carla if he doesn't stop being defensive where Jack Scott is concerned.
Larry decides it's best if he and Karen separate for a while; she moves into Ina Hopkins' boarding house. Will and Tony are upset by Samantha's anti-Karen attitude. When Karen tries to explain why she withheld information about Brian's death. Pat walks away. Jenny finds racetrack stubs in Brad's coat pocket; Brad tries to claim he has to gamble for Adam. When Adam refuses to give Paul an interview, Paul decides to go ahead with the article anyway. Gretel is torn between loyalty to Adam and her interest in Paul. Pat’s producer Dick Grant doesn't like Adam and tells Pat. Following an argument with Jack, Carla slams the door, accidentally breaking his thumb and ruining his surgical career. Dorian wants Dr. Ivan Kipling to join Llanview Hospital staff. While kissing Adam, Pat notices someone looking in the window. Pat's show producer Dick is falling in love with Pat. Becoming noticeably irrational, Melinda accuses Jenny of being Peter's lover. Talbot is arrested after his son Greg turns him into police.
Melinda sows suspicion in Brad's mind concerning an affair between Jenny and Peter. Peter learns Melinda never was a student of Bruno Westheim. Melinda, realizing she is ill, signs herself back into the sanitarium. Dorian asks Gwen to move out of the house. Dr. Mario offers his services to Llanview Clinic. Anna keeps giving Karen the cold shoulder. Dorian wants Larry to lose his position as hospital chief of staff. Greg's mother decides to go on the wagon. Edwina advises Dorian to cool her jealousy of Paul and Gretel's relationship. Ed and Carla separate.
Ed moves into Ina Hopkins' boarding house. Karen is devastated by loneliness. Begged by Melinda, Peter signs commitment papers, but Dorian thinks Peter wanted Melinda out of the way so he could be with Jenny. Larry remains chief of staff. Ivan waits for his wife Faith to come to Llanview. Dick is obsessed with feelings for Pat and has a wall full of snapshots of her; when she drops her scarf he keeps it, claiming he never found it. Brad is in a $2800 gambling debt.

Steve blew up at Audrey for telling Jeff about his paternity. Jeff went to Hawaii with sister Terri. Heather gravitated toward Larry Joe in Jeff’s absence. Bobbie and Luke convinced his pal Roy to lure Laura to a meeting about David’s love letters. Laura then would miss her parole curfew. Gail accepted Lee’s marriage proposal. Heather allowed the police to think that Diana is letting her imagination run away about lurking shadows around the house. Dory spent the night with Howard. Bobbie anonymously told Higgins about Laura breaking parole. Higgins found Laura at a bar with Roy and the bartender lied saying Laura spent many nights there. Mitch and Tracy revived scandal stories about Laura. Alan chastised Tracy, who scared Monica by threatening to find out what’s up between Rick and Monica. Anne assured Jeremy he has a place at the Hardy’s because his only relatives don’t want him. Jeff returned but remained sullen with Heather and angry with Steve and Audrey. Rick and Scotty tried to find out who set up Laura.

With Colleen's counseling, Lesley decides to make marriage to Rick work, and returns home. Figuring a rift between Lesley and Rick might hurt Laura's chances of getting off probation, Bobbie has Luke make an anonymous phone call to the judge, spilling the Webbers’ marital problems. With Steve on the road to recovery, Audrey feels he should know that Jeff is aware he is his father. Thinking Jeff no longer loves her, Heather decides not to tell him that becoming pregnant would endanger her life; Jeff decides not to tell her that Steve is his father. Cal is skulking around Diana and Peter's home. Lee is upset when Scotty and Laura decide they want to marry as soon as possible.
Feeling betrayed, Steve is unable to forgive Audrey for telling Jeff he was his father. Jeff heads for Hawaii to visit his sister Terri. Absent from the hospital without permission, Jeff faces suspension. With Peter out of town, Dr. Kincaid substitutes for him in counselling Laura. Bobbie is quite taken with the attractive Dr. Kincaid. Laura lets it be known she is going to stop her therapy sessions as soon as she and Scotty wed. While Scotty wants to hold off until they get Lee's approval, Laura wants to get married right away. Howard and Dorrie become lovers. Gary accuses Howard of being in love with Gina and every other woman Gary is involved with. Rick and Lesley are in separate bedrooms. Colleen gets a job in the free clinic with Lesley. Lesley tells Monica she'll work with her in the hospital but has no intention of accepting any of Alan's social invitations.
With a little behind-the-scenes push by Tracy, Laura's love letters to David are printed in the paper. Laura gets a call from a man who says he'll turn the letters over to her — a set-up engineered by Bobbie to get her to break probation. After a call from Luke, Mr. Higgins, Laura's probation officer, discovers Laura at a bar with a drink on the table in front of her. Although she insists it's a frame-up, Mr. Higgins says he must tell the judge and Laura fears she may wind up in reform school. Police think Diana's constant fears about a lurking stranger are a figment of her imagination. Heather decides to make Diana think she's losing her mind. Jeff returns from Hawaii. Jeremy is staying at Audrey and Steve's. Jeff says he needs Heather but she feels he's pulling away from her.

Miles and Nicole were married. Deborah and Steve found Wade’s body. Margo burned an incriminating manuscript that Wade had written. Tank had reason to bump Wade off since Wade figured Tank was the theater arsonist. Draper discouraged April from getting to know her mama, Margo, better. Tank told Raven about being the arsonist. Wade’s tapes were stolen. Witnesses claimed they saw Winter leaving Wade’s apartment the night of his murder. She admitted arguing with him but insisted he was alive when she left. Elliott found new employment as Margo’s “paid companion” and he found a gun in her purse. Mike caught Diana lying about maneuvering his office secretary. Calvin comforted Star when she feared she’d soon be unemployed. Draper was suspicious when Margo posted Winter’s bail. Elliott convinced Margo to “keep” him, but when she was gone, he seduced her maid, Sara. Logan saw a tape that Deborah and Steve found showing Winter and Wade together. Tank took a powder while being sought for questioning regarding the arson at Wade’s theater. Mike told Diana that he was fed up with her lies; she then went to buy some acid, declaring Mike didn’t deserve to have her father’s eyes. Logan and Raven suspected they’d each been at Wade’s the night of the murder. Logan disqualified himself and Cliff Nelson was assigned to prosecute Winter. Draper disapproved of Margo’s involvement with Elliott and her ploys to make up for lost time with April. Mike was saved from Diana’s acid throwing plan and she was carted away. Cliff was impressed by Raven.

Winter is the No. 1 suspect in Wade's murder. Mike and Nancy are thrilled at Miles and Nicole's wedding. Logan wants to see baby Jamie grow up but doesn't think he can bear close ties with Raven. Margo feels rejected by April.
Logan and Raven reconcile. Steve thinks Winter has the answer to Wade's murder. A drunken Elliot goes to Margo for money, then passes out; Margo lets him stay. Draper warns April against forming a relationship with Margo, even though she is her mother. Nancy is onto Diana's sweetness act, but Mike looks on her as a daughter — not the relationship Diana has in mind. April continues to visit Margo. Margo tells Elliot he can have a loan if he stays in town. Winter is arrested for murder, and her former lover Logan is the prosecuting attorney.
Winter admits to police she went to Wade's apartment the night he was killed to retrieve tapes of her porno flick "Lacy Lady." Elliot agrees to be Margo's paid escort. Feeling Mike doesn't deserve the sight he gained by receiving her father's eyes in transplant, Diana goes shopping for chemicals. Draper insists that April stop seeing Margo and refuse any invitations she extends.
Feeling too close to the case, Logan decides he cannot prosecute Winter and gives the assignment to aggressive assistant D.A., Cliff Nelson. Mike and Nancy decide Diana must move out but hope she will seek professional help. Out of the Karr house, Diana seeks revenge. Steve and Deborah save Mike from losing sight when Diana tries to blind him with liquid bleach. Margo is implicated in Wade's murder. Raven is displeased because Winter is no longer the only suspect.

Kitty Davis was hurt by her husband Nick’s insistence that their marriage was over. She ran away and collapsed in the snow. Phil Brent found Kitty, his step-mother and took her to Margo Flax’s when she accepted the end of her marriage. Anne Martin was horrified when Paul, her husband, told her he was planning to divorce. She realized he had assumed she had chosen Nick. She sneaked out of the hospital and police realized she left intentionally because she withdrew money from her bank account. Secretary Mona Kane blurted out to Anne’s mother, Phoebe Tyler, that Nick gave Ann up so she could have a child. Phoebe refused to fire Mona as Charles asked and Mona was distraught by what she had unintentionally said. Paul rejected the possibility that Anne might not want a divorce.
Mona reluctantly agreed to testify to her daughter Erica Kane Martin’s adultery with Jason. Erica drank too much and broke down. She begged Jeff Martin, her former husband, to reconsider reconciliation but he refused. The divorce was finalized and Jeff and Mary Kennicott jubilantly planned for their marriage.
Tara Tyler sent Phil Brent a letter saying she did not meet him at the motel not because she did not love him but because she did. She simply could not betray her husband Chuck. Phil rushed to California and Tara explained the baby was her first consideration. Despite her desire to tell Phil the truth, she remained faithful to her marriage. Phil returned home telling his mother Ruth Martin the baby could be his. Erica and Phil became closer in commiseration over their mutual unhappy lives. Erica went straight to Chuck telling him she hoped she would remain friends with Tara and him. An EPA job offer made Philip reconsider his decision to leave Pine Valley but Ruth was upset to see Erica near her son. Erica even told Tara she and Phillip were close.

Paul Martin told his brother Joe that he felt living with a ghost since Anne disappeared but he had been seeing Margo Flax a lot. Paul and Charles Tyler, Anne’s father, learned by a private investigator that Anne had been located in London. Margo admitted to Kitty Shea, whose marriage to Nick Davis - Anne’s former husband - recently crumbled, that she was in love with Paul but afraid of being hurt. Kate Martin, Paul and Joe’s mother, told Phoebe Tyler, Anne’s mother, that Paul was seeing Margo but Paul told his mother that Margo was only a friend.
Phoebe pressed Mona Kane to quit her job as Charles Tyler’s – Phoebe’s husband – secretary but she refused. She persuaded Mona’s daughter, Erica, to convince Mona because the Maxwell murder scandal reflected poorly on Charles. Mona was furious.
Nick Davis offered Erica a loan to re-establish her modeling career in New York and to leave Nick’s son, Phil, alone. However, Erica managed to get a local television news-weather reporting job. Nick asked Tara Tyler to see more of Phil to distract him from Erica. Then, Chuck Tyler, Tara’s husband, took Tara out for an evening of dinner but the mood changed when Phil and Erica walked in celebrating their new jobs. Ruth Martin, Phil’s mother, and Tara were livid at Erica’s brass in barging into the Martin home to wait for Phil. Phil was annoyed when Chuck warned him about Erica.
Dr. Jeff Martin and Mary Kennicott’s approaching wedding was marred by the admittance to the hospital of two year old Teddy, a beaten child. Dr. Frank Grant and his wife, Nancy, were horrified that they had to stand by helplessly as the boy would probably be returned to his parents.

Sally Rouland told her husband Pierre she agreed they should sell the restaurant and move to Paris. She added Snapper Foster did not know about the child. However, Sally and Pierre were robbed and Pierre struggled with the robber when he tried to take Sally hostage. Pierre was injured and at hospital, did not respond to the neurological tests Dr. Brad Eliot gave him. He suddenly died. Marianne Meulot, Pierre’s sister arrived from France and vowed over Pierre’s body that Sally would pay. She told Sally she had no right to the restaurant and tried to throw her out. Stuart Brooks was upset to see Snapper comforting Sally and told his wife Jennifer he did not trust Snapper. Marianne was furious when Pierre’s will indicated Sally was the sole heir of the restaurant and made an appointment to see Stuart.
Jill Foster was ecstatic over her new job but realized her boss, Kay Chancellor had a drinking problem. When Kay’s husband, Phillip Chancellor begged Kay to stop drinking, she refused. Jill was discouraged at Kay’s lack of response to their efforts.
Gwen Sherman, Greg Foster’s mystery client, told him all she wanted from her aunt’s estate was money. She turned down Greg’s date invitations because he did not know dating men was her profession.
Lorie Brooks was using her book manuscript to take Brad away from her sister, Leslie. When Leslie triumphantly returned from her piano debut, Lorie had prearranged a date with Brad which hurt Leslie to the core. Lorie told Brad that Leslie felt a musician could not divide herself between a husband and a career. When Leslie confronted her sister, she said Brad was helping her with her writing. At Brad’s suggestion, Leslie got him a ticket for her Detroit concert but Lorie managed to detour the ticket. Against his wishes, Brad began thinking of the things his ex, Barbara, never told him that drove him out of Chicago and of the operating room.
APRIL
The Young And The Restless

Before leaving for Paris, Marianne Rouland, Pierre’s sister, told Stuart Brooks that Dr. Snapper Foster was the father of the child Sally – Pierre’s widow - was carrying. Stuart confronted Snapper who refused to either deny or admit. When Sally learned what Marianne did, she went to Stuart and his wife Jennifer explaining she got pregnant to trap Snapper but realizing how much he loved their daughter Chris, she married Pierre. She added she would be leaving Genoa City. However, Snapper learned of Sally’s suicide attempt by gas in her early months of pregnancy and he insisted she remained in town until the baby was born. Chris was angry at her father’s attitude about Snapper’s protectiveness of Sally but Stuart was furious to learn that Sally was staying in town.
Lawyer Greg Foster continued to press Gwen Sherman for a date and she explained she distrusted men as after her mother died her father informed her he was never married and took off. She tried to discourage Greg to get closer. He was confused when a man arrived at Gwen’s apartment ignoring she was a call girl.
Kay Chancellor told Jill about her storybook first marriage to Gary Reynolds and her marriage after Gary’s death to Phillip Chancellor. Jill was impressed by Phillip and he was protective of her realizing she was innocent about men. Jill managed to keep Kay from drinking all day and when Phillip arrived home he was encouraged. But when he was preparing to make love to his wife, she took one drink and another and she passed out when Phillip returned from the shower.
Lorie Brooks hid the love letter and concert ticket her sister Leslie sent to Brad Elliot and implied Leslie forgot. When Leslie called just before the concert to find out why Brad wasn’t in Detroit, Lorie answered and made it clear Brad was interested in her, Lorie. Leslie was in shock and so overcome that she had to be led off the stage. She went to New York and wandered through Central Park in confusion. Her handbag was stolen and she spent the night in the rain calling for help. A policeman found her but she was incoherent and taken to Manhattan’s Psychiatric Hospital where she was diagnosed as a possible mani-depressive and put in an observation ward as Jane Doe as she had no ID. She was confused when a young orderly tried to make love to her. Meanwhile, Lorie was taking advantage of Leslie’s absence to get closer to Brad. She admitted she had finished her book and would probably be more successful than Leslie. She also said she thought she was pregnant.

Mona was horrified to learn that Phoebe had made Mona's job as Charles' secretary and her friendship with him the crux of an ultimatum - either he fired Mona or they could no longer live together. Mona therefore resigned her job feeling this would ease the pressure on Charles. But Charles furiously told Phoebe either she made a full apology to Mona or when he returned from a medical convention in Baltimore he would rove to his club. Charles convinced Mona to stay on during his absence but Phoebe confronted Mona about this demanding she be gone before his return. when Mona replied she was only staying until a replacement was found Phoebe again neurotically accused Mona of flaunting her attempt to break up the Tyler marriage and threatened to go the the Hospital Board of Directors to expose this “middle-aged femme fatale of the desk set.” Learning this Charles told Phoebe she'd made his life a living hell and over her protests and later pleas he moved out. Charles asked Mona to stay on as he'd need her more than ever. Phoebe, unable to accept the scope of what she'd done told her daughter Ann she'd be patient and Charles would core to his senses and return.
Since his wife Erica had been institutionalized for treatment for a breakdown following a miscarriage Phil had not been allowed to see her. He had been informed she still refused to believe she lost the child and had continued to confine herself to bed where overeating and without exercise, the resultant weight gain fed her pregnancy fantasy. Finally allowed to visit, Phil was devastated at her unkept appearance and complete misery as she begged him if he loved her and his baby he would take her home. Unable to understand why he couldn't, she cried hysterically and had to be led to her room. The final blow for Philip came when he lost his Job at the EPA due to lack of funding. He bitterly told Tara he was a loser, he never got any of the breaks, everything he touched turned to ashes.
Tara and Phil both encouraged the closeness that had grown between Phil and his namesake, little Philip, Tara and Chuck's little son, but both were careful not to let it slip the truth that Philip not Chuck was the child's father. Philip and Tara married themselves without clergy just before his being sent to Vietnam where he was reported killed in action. Tara married Chuck Tyler to give her child a legal name and father and most friends and relatives believed Chuck was the child's father. Phil recently learned the truth but for his son's security and emotional well-being he had agreed to conceal this from Tara and Chuck.
Mary and Jeff were ecstatic at the possibility that Mary was pregnant. But Mary's joy was shattered when her mother suffered another heart attack and died just after Mary arrived at her side.
Tests and x-rays on young Jamie Coles indicated that his injuries were not the result of an accident as his socialite mother, Stacy Coles, insisted, but rather were repeated child abuse. Ann, who grew up in Stacy's social circle, pressed Dr. Joe Martin to talk to Stacy and her business executive husband Wyatt to persuade them to get help from COPE, the organization that helped parents who couldn’t deal with their own emotional problems and take them out on their children. Stacy, furious at the implications, refused to listen to Joe and demanded that her child be released. However, feeling this was what would happen, Ann had taken Jamie from the hospital and had convinced her ex-husband Nick Davis to conceal her and the child. Realizing it had to have been Ann who took Jamie, Joe and his brother, attorney Paul Martin recently divorced from Ann, tried to stall the Coles while they with her brother, Linc Tyler, tried to locate her. Stacy fearing a police investigation would expose her part in Jamie's injuries stalled Wyatt's attempts to call the police. Ann called Stacy promising to return the child if Stacy would go to COPE, but Stacy hung up on her. Wyatt and Stacy fought constantly over what she felt was his neglect of her, leaving her constantly alone with their child, and his insistance that her financial demanded upon him required his overwork and that her incessant spending precluded household help. Realizing Ann was running a serious risk of going to prison for kidnapping, Nick told Paul where she was and Paul forcefully convinced her to relinquish the child to him. As the boy was being physically checked, Joe and Paul tried again to explain COPE and Ann's reason for taking Janie to the Coles. Stacy refused to let Joe continue and demanded Jamie immediately. The Coles were jubulant over the return of their son, but Stacy was furious when Wyatt had to immediately leave for the office. When Jamie began to cry Stacy reacted neurotically and began to recall her own mother, Mrs. Littleton, who verbally abused her as a child - Mrs. Littleton did not want a child and emotionally battered Stacy constantly - and she began to physically take her frustrations out on Jamie. However, Kitty Shea inadvertently arrived with Stacy's new dresses preventing further injury. Fortunately in a polite gesture, Stacy agreed to pass around COPE posters for Kitty and when later Jamie again driove Stacy to the brink of sanity she grabbed the poster and dialed the COPE number. Giving her name, Stacy requested entrance in a parent therapy group. Wyatt was incredulous that she'd done this saying she was not one of "those people" she just had to control her temper. When she insisted she was going and asked him to go with her for moral support, he equivocated.
Margo, recently married to Paul, showed her annoyance at Paul’s preoccupation with Ann’s involvement in Jamie’s kidnapping. Considerably older than Ann, her jealousy and insecurities needed little actual encouragement. Claudette, Margo’s daughter, in Pine Valley to obtain a divorce from her socialite husband, rarely missed an opportunity to point up the difference in Margo and Paul’s age and went out of her way to show Paul how sympathetic and understanding she was in areas where her mother was not and suggested she, Claudette, would be happier with an older man. Paul, upset that Ann might resent the harshness of his argument to gain Jamie’s return, went to apologize to her. As they talked about past misunderstandings, hidden feelings seem to surface between them and when he suddenly kissed her, she passionately responded.

Paul went to Anne to apologize for being so forceful in convincing her to give up Jamie Coles, and suddenly grabbed and kissed her. She responded passionately. Both were stunned and Paul left wordlessly. Neither seemed able to forget the kiss. When Anne’s mother, Phoebe, refused to heed Anne’s warning not to interfere in her life, Anne moved back to her apartment with Nick’s help. He noticed she was somehow different since Paul’s visit. Stacy Coles thanked Anne for helping her see what she was doing to Jamie.
Wyatt Coles visited Joe to find out more about COPE’s group therapy, not understanding what was involved or Stacy’s interest. Gently, Joe told Wyatt that Jamie wasn’t accident prone, but had been abused by Stacy. Wyatt admitted he suspected that but refused to acknowledge it because he had have to deal with it. Wyatt told Stacy about his discussion with Joe. Stacy steeled herself for his anger and hatred, but was surprised when he said it was their problem and he accepted some of the responsibility because he was unnecessarily neglected her and Jamie for his work. He said they had a chance to build a new life together. When Wyatt said things would be better, she honestly replied they already were. Stacy thanked Kitty for her help.
Hal Short went to see Joe about his flu symptoms and found he had infectious mononucleosis and was hospitalized. Talking with Jeff Martin, Hal asked if he knew Kitty Shea, and looked forward to seeing her when released because he was an old friend of hers. He asked Frank to get him a phone book so he could call Kitty, aware Kitty would be very surprised to see him.
Phoebe, determined to break her son Linc’s romance with Kitty, gained Kitty’s sympathy because of her separation from Charles and tried to intimate Kitty into ending the relationship because her background was so different from Linc’s. Linc got the story from Kitty, finally, and tried to reassure her by saying all he wanted was to marry Kitty and raise a family. Kitty told him she couldn’t marry him because pregnancy could be fatal to her. Linc finally won her over by saing, “Be my life, my family, my love,” and they could adopt children. Linc told Phoebe to stop her interference, but Phoebe was determined and snooped into Kitty’s medical files during an appointment with Dr. Clader, later telling everyone she learned of Kitty’s condition from Kate Martin. Phoebe begged Linc not to let the family name die, or worse, go to a child of questionable background. Linc said it didn’t matter. Charles confrontes Kate about discussing Kitty’s medical background, and when Kate denied it, Charles checked with Clader, who confirmed Phoebe was alone in his office for 10 minutes. Charles told Phoebe it was such tactics that had led to her having to hire companionship. Linc and Kitty planned a June wedding.
Mary Martin admitted to Jeff she tried to get pregnant before given the go-ahead and she was 2 months pregnant, confirmed by Dr. Clader.
Devious Claudette Montgomery used her knowledge of Paul’s visit to Anne and Margo’s secret facelift to keep Paul and Margo from pressuring her into finding a job. Ingratiating herself with Phoebe, Claudette accepted a job as Phoebe’s companion. Supposed to accompany Margo to New York on a buying trip, Claudette feigned illness, pressured Paul into taking her to lunch, then prepared a romantic dinner for them, subtly offering herself as dessert. Paul refused. Margo returned early and she and Claudette argued about the job with Phoebe, so Claudette toke a walk, ending at Phil Brent’s house. At Phoebe’s, Claudette met Anne and flaunted the fact that she lived with Paul – Anne’s ex-husband, hinting they were very friendly. Upset, Anne had lunch with Nick to mend her fences with him. He was delighted. Margo pleaded with Paul to give her more time and affection and arranged for Claudette to move in with Kitty Shea.
Phil Brent, aware that little Phillip, was his son since Ruth broke down and told him, resented Chuck for living the life he wanted, and spent as much time as possible with little Phillip, convincing Chuck that Phil was after Tara. Phil was laid off from his job with the EPA, but refused Nick’s offer of a job at the Chateau. He did accept a loan from Joe. Phil received an offer from EPA in Dallas, but turned it down, saying he didn’t want to leave Erica and the house. Erica, who was pregnant with Phil’s child when they married, was emotionally unable to accept her subsequent miscarriage and was presently a patient at Oakhaven Sanitarium where despite excellent care her condition had not improved. Incensed, Chuck told Joe it was because of Tara and Joe determined to talk to Phil. Ruth warned Phillip he should take the job before everything blew up. Phil refused. Chuck’s suspicious caused a rift between Tara and him, so he went to confront Phillip. Phil said Tara wasn’t his reason for staying, and was about to spill the real reason, when Claudette arrived. Chuck, relieved, assumed Claudette was Phil’s reason for staying. Tara was upset at Chuck’s conclusions, and checked it out with Ruth, who said Tara would have to ask Phil his reasons. Phil accepted Nick’s job offer.

Snapper was very uptight thinking about the letter from his father who was requesting a visit after he deserted the family 9 years ago. Chris, his wife, came across the typed letter from Chicago with no return address and thinking it might be Sally the mother of Snapper’s one, opened it. Chris assumed that Snapper would contact his father, but Snapper told her to forget it. Finally Snapper decided to tell his mother Liz but when he found that Sam Powers had finally brought a smile to her face after 9 lonely years, he tore up the letter vowing that his mother would not be hurt.
Gwen Sherman had donated the money she made as a prostitute to an orphanage run by Sister Theresa, a Mexican nun, and was also donating her time. After Greg told Gwen how much in need of money they were, Gwen persuaded an old “customer” who gave her a hard time at the restaurant where she worked to help by telling Sister Theresa in his presence how happy he would be to write them a check. Gwen asked Sister Theresa if, with her past, it was possible to become a nun and she received the answer she wanted. Greg called the Allegro for Gwen and was told that she had left to become a nun. He went to the orphanage to say goodbye and wished her well.
When Chris saw Greg ask the Sisters to pray for his father, she could no longer keep Snapper’s secret. Greg pushed her for information and she thought she remembered the letterhead saying “Regis”. Greg called but found out that his father had never been registered and rooms started at $75 and hung up before the heard the clerk say they were sometimes confused with the “Regent.” Liz cancelled a dinner with Sam when she remembered it was her wedding anniversary, but Sam convinced her that she had to live for the present and she went out, much to Greg’s regret. Greg told Snapper he knew about the letter and would find out what was going on at the Regis and then told his mother. Snapper realized he was contacting the wrong hotel.
Kay Chancellor’s luncheon for Jill, her companion, and Liz was successful in that it made Liz feel sorry for her, but it had convinced Phillip, Kay’s husband, that she was well enough to be asked for a divorce. When Kay asked her son, Brock, how God decided who received when two good people wanted the same thing, he replied: “The most deserving one.” Kay told Jill that she thought Phillip was planning something special for her when she was well. Phillip asked Jill to dinner not giving her time to go home to change. Kay used the opportunity to make Jill feel guilty when she fussed, insisting that Jill wear one of her dresses. Phillip and Jill both agreed that she could no longer remain in Kay’s employ and Phillip insisted on supporting her. Jill asked to quit immediately, but Kay persuaded her to give 2 weeks notice hoping that would be enough time to avert the divorce she was sure Phillip would ask for. Phillip and Jill wondered where Kay could have gone on her own when she visited Liz at the factory to tell her Jill had quit and to ask her help as she was sure Liz knew about Jill and Phillip. Liz tried to convince Jill that she couldn’t build a happy marriage on another woman’s misery. Kay realized she had to move quickly if she was going to keep Phillip. She offered Jill something her mother couldn’t give her – a college education at a good eastern school.
Lorie was 3 months late in her rent, her father Stuart had disowned her, so she asked Phillip Chancellor for a loan and a job, but told him not to feel obligated because she saw him with Jill.
All of Jennifer’s daughters were concerned about her: two hoping she would make the right decision – although they differed on what that was – and two wondering what was bothering her. Not knowing that Dr. Bruce Henderson was the reason Jennifer had to get away, Stuart called him inadvertently giving Bruce the information he wanted – Jennifer’s destination – Key Biscayne, Florida. Lorie showed up at Leslie’s apartment thinking Leslie would have joined their mother in Florida and she would have Brad, Leslie’s husband, to herself. Lorie felt that at almost fifty their mother was old enough to make up her own mind. Mark, Bruce’s son, tried to make Stuart aware that he should convince Jennifer how much he needed her without coming out with the truth.
Bruce called Jennifer from the lobby saying he would leave if she wanted him to, but she invited him up telling him that she was terribly lonely, but hadn’t made up her mind and wouldn’t go home until she did. After spending several days with Bruce, she decided to ask Stuart for a divorce and she and Bruce would buy a piece of land and he could practice in Florida. Lorie had called Mark saying she wanted to discuss his father and her mother, making him break a date with her sister Peggy. Mark found that Lorie was in favor of the divorce and asked if it wasn’t because she resented her father’s favoritism of Leslie and wanted to get back at him. On a hunch, Peggy went to Lorie’s and when she found Mark there, broke down crying and rushed out convinced that Lorie was trying to steal Mark from her. Mark went to see Peggy, but unable to get her to trust him he had to tell her about his father and her mother. When Leslie couldn’t reach her mother by phone and then found out Dr. Henderson was still registered at the hotel she decided to fly to Florida, but was stopped by Lorie, who received a call saying Jennifer wanted to meet with all the girls at 3:00 at the house, but had told Stuart she would be home, in the evening. Jennifer told the girls she had spent her life denying herself love for their sake and hoped they would understand when she asked Stuart a divorce. Stuart told Brad that he had been thinking while Jennifer had been away and wanted Brad to take over more responsibility so that he could fill the void in Jennifer’s life the girls had left by growing up and, he added, he was becoming fatigued. He had made arrangements to take Jennifer on a much wanted trip to Europe for a month. Brad detained him when he wanted to go home early, and later Brad and Sam Powers found Stuart lying unconscious on his office floor. Brad massaged Stuart’s heart on the way to the hospital saving his life. Snapper asked Brad how he knew what to do but Brad told him to forget it. Peggy broke down at the hospital refusing to stay in the house with her mother, so Lorie would take care of her. At the house, Leslie gave her mother the airline tickets to Europe and Jennifer was explaining that you couldn’t buy love when Brad called asking them to return to the hospital when Stuart suddenly went into cardiac arrest. Brad injected adrenalin and massaged Stuart’s heart until it resumed functioning on its own. Brad said, “Nice work Doctor,” to Snapper who replied, “That’s what I was going to say, DOCTOR!”

Jennifer Brooks knew that her daughters thought she was wrong for wanting to divorce their father for another man, but as Stuart Brooks had a heart attack before she could tell him, she was only concerned that he get well. Peggy, Jennifer’s youngest daughter didn’t want to stay with her mother but Brad, her brother-in-law, said she should because Stuart had asked that Dr. Bruce Henderson, his friend and Jennifer’s lover, be called as a consultant. After seeing Stuart, Bruce told Jennifer that they had to not see each other until Stuart was well because his heart couldn’t stand the strain they had to not be responsible for another heart attack. Stuart took Bruce’s leaving as a sign that he was in good hands and told Brad that he had so much to live for. But after awhile Peggy’s prediction that Stuart would be able to see a change in Jennifer came to pass. Stuart feared the change had to do with Jennifer thinking about how their intimate relationship would change because of his heart attack, but Jennifer managed to reassure him. Peggy had been having a rough time dealing with the upheaval in her life and when Mark Henderson, Bruce’s son, and Peggy’s date before all this, called and went to see her, he found her trying to be seductive wearing Lorie’s dress and manner stating this had to be how to get what you wanted out of life. She tried to seduce him, but he blamed their parents and left. Brad found Peggy in Lorie’s outfit at a campus hang-out, made up and making out. Brad tried to convince her that this was not the real Peggy, but Peggy was hurt and claimed this was the way everyone else got what they wanted and went back to show Brad that she could act like Lorie and her mother.
When Greg Foster told Brad about the letter from his father and that Chris thought it was from the Regis Hotel in Chicago, Brad said the Regent got confused with the Regis. As Greg prepared to go to Chicago, Chris’ memory was jogged by a letter from the Board of Regents, but promised her husband, Snapper, she wouldn’t tell Greg because Snapper feared that a “visit” from her husband who had been absent 9 years would only hurt his mother. Sam Powers told Greg that he was planning to ask Liz Foster to marry him, but promised Greg he would wait for his return. Greg found nothing in the registration cards, but saw a memo of supplies that Bill Foster “Logan” the janitor had left on the desk and sought out his father in the basement. After telling him what had become of everyone, Greg said he would tell Jill and then think about asking him for a visit. Snapper found out Greg had gone to Chicago, blamed Chris for telling Greg and had to apologize when he found out she kept her promise, but told Sam to go ahead and ask Liz to marry him. When Greg got home, he was convinced by his mother’s happiness that he shouldn’t tell her until he remembered that if she married Sam believing Bill was dead, she would be guilty of bigamy and he could be disbarred for knowing better. He told Snapper she had to be told and the $1000 repaid to the insurance company. Greg told Liz that his father was alive and wanted to come home for a visit upsetting Liz because he had been declared dead and she had made up her mind to marry Sam. She would have preferred Greg had not said anything. Greg said that since he knew he had to tell her or she would have been guilty of bigamy if she married Sam unless she got a divorce. After thinking about it, she began to sway when she told Snapper what Greg said and might let him come for a visit. Snapper was sure Sam would understand if she had to get a divorce first.
In order to get Jill Foster away from her husband Phillip, Kay Chancellor told Jill she’d send her to college and when Jill said it had been too long since she had been to school, Kay visited Jill’s family telling them of her offer, Jill’s refusal and that she hoped they could change her mind. At dinner that night, Phillip gave Jill a large solitaire engagement ring to wear on a chain. Greg guessed who Jill was in love with when he put everything together, but Jill said she would move out if Greg told Snapper because she deserved some happiness and was going to marry Phillip. Kay told Jill that if she ever intended to marry a man of background and means she had to attend college so that she wouldn’t feel inferior. The more Kay, an alcoholic, recovered from her drinking problem the sorrier Jill felt about hurting her, but told herself the marriage was over long before Phillip fell in love with her. Jill was so distraught that when Phillip intercepted her and took her to the cabin in the woods, they had no intention of being intimate, but it seemed right and it happened. Kay saw them and rushed to the phone and ordered a case of vodka, but her son Brock’s singing and her reading of the 23rd Psalm got her through this trying time and she cancelled the order because as long as he didn’t leave her, she didn’t care if he slept with Jill. She had Brock deliver a dress to Jill for the ladies luncheon to be the following day. While waiting for the women to arrive, Kay became distressed when she remembered Phillip and Jill together, but after Brock again calmed her with his singing she was the gracious hostess she once was, showing Jill that it took a special kind of woman to be Phillip’s wife. When Phillip came home, Jill told him that she was not good enough, but Brock saw Phillip try to kiss away Jill’s doubts and tell her he would ask for his divorce as soon as she left Kay’s employ. Kay told Brock that Jill had doubts about marrying this secret man she refused to talk about, but was sure he would persuade her. She offered Brock access to the family money if he would marry Jill to save her from this situation. Brock took Jill to his “quiet place”and told her that they were both searching for something and would do well together. She accepted his proposal and after meditating they pledge their honesty and Brock asked God to accept their vows. Jill’s family was shocked when they found out she had married Brock, but she said she would explain later. They told Kay who was happy for them, but when Phillip came in and Jill had to tell him he was almost beside himself. Because they had no place to go, Kay offered them Brock’s father’s cabin in the woods knowing what memories it would hold for Jill.
