Ryan's Hope

After Jack had another fight with Tom, Mary learned that Tom is an ex-prizefighter and that his best friend in Ireland, Tom O’Brien, died right before O’Brien was due to marry the girl they both loved.  Dee went into her first round of pretending to go bonkers at a dinner party to which she invited Alicia.  Jill accepted an emerald and diamond ring from Seneca, but insisted that it not be considered an engagement ring.  Jack decided to expose hospital procedures after the board refused to rescind Pat’s official reprimand or meet the house committee’s demands.  Tom urged Mary to discourage Jack from writing the story because it would harm Pat rather than help him. Jill got fed up with Seneca’s overbearing claims on her, then learned the perils of having an unwed-mother reputation when she had to fend off the advances of an eager beaver.  Jack promised Mary he wouldn’t involve Pat in his hospital story.  Mary nixed sleeping with Tom just yet.  Dee succeeded in convincing Faith and Pat that she’s not mentally well.  Frank won the primary election as city councilman.  Newspaper tycoon William Woodard and his wife, Rae, were brought to Riverside after their helicopter crashed.  Mary learned that Tom’s real surname is O’Brien and that he has been running from his past.  Rae made demands at the hospital, conducting business dealings while trying to keep it from the press that William’s condition is critical. Jack was stymied from interviewing Rae about the consequences of Bill’s injuries to his senate campaign.  Rae told Frank she’s going to agree with Roger’s opinion for immediate surgery on Bill, despite Clem’s and Seneca’s advice against it.  Dee’s plan to hide at her mother’s grave in a ploy to get Pat’s attention backfired when Pat insisted she consult a psychiatrist.

While in San Francisco, Christina met her old beau, Hadley, whom her father had bribed to drop her years ago.  She told him she loves David now.  Erica stormed at Nick for trying to convince Tom not to hire her.  After a minor postponement, Chuck and Donna tied the knot.  After Phil left for a police seminar in Kentucky, Ruth and Joe found Tara unconscious following a fainting spell. Mona asked Charles to suspend their relationship so that Phoebe won’t have any more fuel for her divorce suit.  In Danny’s absence, Brooke got chummy with Tom.  Tara miscarried but decided not to tell Phil until he returned.  Chuck told Tara of his marriage to Donna, but neglected to tell her that little Phil is living with them.  Christina and David became engaged, but his ex-wife Edna decided to let him know she’s in financial trouble.  Harlan agreed to finance Ellen’s plans to purchase the boutique from Myrtle, who accepted a marriage proposal from Nigel.  Danny returned.  Edna came to Pine Valley with the story that she’s still married to David and that he’s the father of her daughter, Dottie.  Phil returned to discover that Tara miscarried, and in her delirium thinks she’s still married to Chuck.  Phil blamed Chuck and vowed to drag Donna’s name through the mud in a custody case.  Devon gave Ellen and Mark the cold shoulder after spotting them getting cuddly.  Little Phil pulled his brat act on Donna.  Frank and Nancy worked on the case of Roberta, a welfare child who suffered from malnutrition.  Paul visited Anne who has regressed to childhood. Phil was unaware that Tara had a relapse until she was near death.  Phil confronted Donna with his custody intentions.  Tara’s on the recovery path.  Edna and Dottie moved into David’s cabin.  Christina apologized to Jeff for accusing him of leading Edna there.  Erica insisted to Tom that there’s nothing between her and Nick.  Ellen gave in to Devon’s ultimatum to call it quits with Mark or Devon would join her father.  David returned and assured Christina that Edna’s claims are cheap ploys.  He ordered Edna out, but she made the excuse that Dottie is ill.  Donna fretted that Chuck still loves Tara.  After Danny’s attentions to Devon, Brooke dated Benny.  Erica ruined Frank’s celebration of Caroline’s return by bringing Nancy into the picture.
