ALL MY CHILDREN

August 1978

(by Jon-Michael Reed)

Tom hospitalized Brooke after she nearly choked to death on a carrot.  Tom confronted Erica after Brooke spilled the beans that Erica’s been lying about her annulment progress with Jeff.  Estelle learned that Benny missed their date because of his accident.  Ellen and Mark announced their engagement.  Billy Clyde assured Estelle that her money would be used for a limousine business. Benny agreed to work for Phoebe temporarily.  Chris nixed Jeff’s suggestion they start a family. Kelly and Linc agreed that they won’t allow Myrtle’s matchmaking to affect their relationship. Estelle insisted to Benny that it was too late to consider a future together.  Dan helped Wally get a job at the Goal Post while Devon wondered why she’s gaining weight.  Jeff agreed to give Erica an annulment since she’ll verify she had been emotionally unstable.  Eddie forced Claudette to give Kelly a raise.  Edna made plans for Benny.  Phoebe promised Charlie that Tara and Chuck would be reunited.  Caroline and Frank were on the outs.  Tara nixed Phil’s reconciliation plans even though she was worried about his police “suicide mission” intentions. Myrtle promised Linc that she wouldn’t interfere between him and Kelly.  Billy Clyde was hurt when Estelle asked him for a divorce.  Devon is convinced she’s pregnant.  Paul was upset over Ellen’s engagement to Mark.  Estelle realized it wouldn’t be easy to give up prostitution when her friend Lettie Jean returned to the business.  Frank nixed Caroline’s suggestion to adopt a baby.  Chris and Jeff bought a house. Donna had a household accident and wasn’t able to join Chuck for a weekend in the country with Tara and Charlie.  Chuck saved a drowning Charlie, then Chuck and Tara fell into each other’s arms.  Linc and Myrtle realized that Eddie is shortchanging Kelly but Eddie told Kelly he wanted to marry her.  Devon went into a tailspin when her pregnancy was confirmed.  Estelle and Billy Clyde reconciled and he warned Benny to stay away from Estelle.  Erica’s annulment hearing was held and she pressured Charles to plan a huge wedding reception at the country club. Erica and Tom’s wedding was a big question mark since the church dispensation papers didn’t arrive.  Tara felt guilty after sleeping with Chuck and admitted he’d only married married Donna to fill the void when Tara married Phil.  Dan strolled by before Devon could jump from a bridge.  She must decide whether to have an abortion or marry Wally.  Billy Clyde told Estelle he’d spent all of her inheritance from Maggie.  Nancy gave birth to a baby boy.  Myrtle gloated when Kelly nixed Eddie’s marriage proposal.  Phil, who’s still in commando training, was distraught that he hasn’t heard from Tara or Charlie.

Dan is amazed at the sober turn taken by Devon’s personality. Wally gets a job as the Goal Post valet. Devon fears added pounds means she is pregnant. Tara nixes Phil’s offer to give up commando training if it will reconcile them. Finally getting together, Benny and Estelle reaffirm their love and she promises to ask Billy Clyde for a divorce. Caroline and Frank continue to fight over his concern for Nancy’s welfare. Following a visit to Anne in the sanitarium, Paul believes she will never recover mental balance. Paul is concerned over Ellen's decision to marry Mark. After discussing pregnancy symptoms with Tara, Devon fears she is pregnant by Wally. Phoebe intends to use Charlie to get Charles back and make sure Tara and Chuck are reunited. When Estelle asks Billy Clyde for divorce, he pleads for her to stay with him because he truly loves her. Letty Jean, a former hooker, returns to her old life saying she'll never be happy in the straight world. Learning she is pregnant, Devon considers suicide. Granted annulment, Erica wants a big country club wedding; Tom prefers a quiet ceremony. Phoebe says she will come to Erica's wedding only if a invitation is sent to Charles so he will have to escort her. Charlie continues to badger Tara about remarrying Chuck. When Donna sprains her ankle, Chuck goes up to see Tara and Charlie at Willow Lake. After Chuck saves Charlie from drowning, he and Tara make love. Myrtle realizes Kelly is growing fond of Linc because she is upset by the thought that Linc may feel he's better than she is. Eddie is trying to cheat Kelly out of her income tax refund, asks Kelly to marry him to head off her feelings for Linc. Jeff and Christina prepare to move into a larger house. Just as the pregnant Devon is about to jump from a bridge, Dan drives by. She tells him her purse was stolen and that she was just looking in the river. Although she feels guilty, Tara admits to Chuck she loves him. Kelly refuses Eddie's marriage proposal claiming she wants to be independent. Estelle is upset to learn she cannot move away from Locust Street because Billy has spent her bequest from Maggie to buy a limousine service. Nancy has a baby boy. When annulment papers do not arrive, Erica fears her wedding may have to be postponed.

One Life To Live

(by Jon-Michael Reed)

Peter and Melinda eloped.  Jenny visited Brad but insisted she was going through with the annulment.  Karen helped Larry score points for the chief of staff job by impressing a board member. Tina’s California boyfriend dumped her because he couldn’t support her but she met a pizza parlor worker, Greg.  Marco interviewed hookers for his massage parlor.  Dorian denied that she’d sent the schizoid letter that Melinda actually wrote to Overton. In a move to discredit Larry, Dorian hired private eye Hank who questioned Karen’s former hooker pals.  Luke busted out of the slammer.  Peter was baffled by Melinda’s erratic honeymoon behavior.  She burned their marriage certificate while Overton realized that Melinda has slipped mentally.  Brad was released.  Marco bought out Dorian’s share of the health club after she realized it was a bordello.  Edwina’s brother Dwight hit her up for money and she kept it a secret that they’re related.  Sadie and Ed were puzzled by Carla’s hostility toward Jack. Brad moved into Ina’s boarding house, and Jenny still was determined to go through with their annulment.  W.G. followed Richard and Becky to the Riley cabin.  An unnoticed Dorian saw Jack and Carla kissing.  Ed was promoted to captain of detectives.  Marco paid Hank to keep mum about what he’d learned about Karen’s past.  Edwina pursued an interest in Paul. Carla warned Jack to keep his hands off her.  Then Ed was shot by Luke and was operated on by Jack.  Samantha encouraged Will and Pam’s growing relationship. Joe chastised Tina for entertaining Greg while unchaperoned.  Peter worried about Melinda’s increasing insecurities.  Luke found Richard and Becky but Richard subdued Luke after a bloody battle.  Jim advised Wanda to consult a gynecologist.  Paul moved into Edwina’s building and met a seductive neighbor, Lorraine. After Jack operated on Ed, Ed developed pneumonia and went into a cardiac arrest.  Becky planned to get a quickie divorce after Luke was recaptured.  In addition to a camera store job, Brad moonlighted as Tony’s maitre d’, but was hounded by his probation officer. Dorian and Paul grew chummy when she helped him move into his new apartment.  Pat rebuffed her TV station boss Roger Landover’s advances.  Jenny and Paul went to New York to interview an author.  Melinda smashed Dorian’s wedding present.  Marco tried to dig up dirt on Viki after she snubbed him.

(by Nancy Reichardt)

A private investigator hired by Dorian concludes on questioning prostitute Sally that Karen was a call girl. Richard tells Joe he wants to take Becky away from Llanview so Luke cannot harm her. Luke escapes from jail. Brad is released from prison. On honeymoon, Melinda keeps dreaming Peter and Dorian are plotting to have her recommitted; she burns her marriage certificate. Angry because Jack asked her to take care of a personal matter for him, Carla tells him she is his secretarial assistant, not his maid. Carla rebuffs Jack but Dorian saw them clinch. Marco talks Dorian’s private eye into giving him information about Karen’s prostitution. He says she has to give him $1.500 to pay him off but gives the detective only $1.000. Then Marco tells Dorian she can have information about Karen for $25.000. Police corner Luke who shoots Ed, then escapes to discover Becky and Richard in a deserted cabin. Melinda is jealous when Peter buys gifts for his nursing staff. On their last night of honeymoon, Melinda sneaks out of the suite while Peter is sleeping. Jack operated on the critically wounded Ed. Luke handcuffs Becky to the cabin bed, then tries to drown Richard. Brad snags a job as a camera store clerk and Will begins to believe Brad’s promise to change. Wanda and Vince are concerned because they have not had any children in five years of marriage. Tina is working in a pizza parlor with Talbot Huddelston’s son, Greg. Joe, finding Tina and Greg alone in the house, tells her it’s improper. Peter insists Melinda take firm stand to keep Dorian from running their lives. Having developed pneumonia, Ed goes into cardiac arrest. Safe at home and out of danger, Richard and Becky let Edwina know they hold her responsible for Luke's having come to Llanview in the first place. Edwina fumes when her story is bumped in a newspaper for Richard's first-person account of how Luke (now in prison) tried to kill him and Becky. Viki returns home; she and Joe disagree about Tina's rules and regulations. Dorian is upset by the discovery that Melinda left her wedding gift at Mrs. Hopkins. When Peter realizes Melinda lied to Dorian about the present, he wonders if she also lies to him. Brad takes a moonlighting job as maitre d' for Tony's Place but is not pleased with Samantha for setting the job up since it means 18-hour workday for him. Marco plans to pick up any scandal he can about Viki. Realizing how lonely Dorian is, Paul says he will be a true friend to her. While Paul is out of town, Dorian redecorates his apartment.

General Hospital

August 1978

(by Jon-Michael Reed)

Laura didn’t tell Peter that she remembered hitting David and of his fall to the floor.  Lee sobered up, helped Howard in Lesley’s case, and roomed with Gail.  Bobbie roared when she found Scotty comforting Laura in his room.  Rick was mystified when Laura reacted coolly to her legal adoption. Richardson used the testimony of Helen O'Brien and Jeff to make it look as though Lesley and David had been lovers.  Tracy was responsible when Lee slipped off the wagon.  He told her about Monica being Gail’s husband’s lover.  Terri wrote to the Webbers and indicated she’s homesick.  Dan invited Jessie to a Vermont cabin.  Bobbie was obsessed that Scotty is overly concerned for Laura.  Diana asked Heather to care for P.J. if Diana’s condition worsened and anything should happen to her. Richardson found remnants of a love note in the chandelier of David’s apartment.  Lt. Ramsey proved the note had been typed on the Webbers’ typewriter.  Bobbie fumed when Scotty accepted Bryan as a roommate but not her.  Peter got Laura to agree to hypnosis.  Heather panicked when Jeff agreed to meet with Jamison after Lesley’s trial.  Gary was jealous of Gina’s successful return.  Lincoln Pritchett, "Pritch"  Susan’s menacing ex-husband, arrived in town. Lesley was found guilty after she testified that she was David’s mistress.  Rick realized that Lesley was covering for the real murderer, Laura, and set out to prove it.  Susan told Lincoln to stay out of her life.  Heather was suspicious of Steve’s paternal attitude toward Jeff.  Diana swore her mother to secrecy about her dizzy spells.  Monica and Alan had another flare up over Monica and Rick’s friendship. Laura disappeared after realizing that Rick was on her tail.  Later, a body was found in New York’s East River which was presumed to be Laura’s.  Diana needed extensive neurological tests and Heather offered to care for P.J. if Diana is hospitalized.  Heather threatened to tell the whole town why Lincoln divorced Susan unless Susan steered clear of Peter.  Gary suggested matching Howard and Tracy since it would be nice to have all that wealth in the Lansing family.  Alan refused to discuss Grace with Monica.

(by Nancy Reichardt)

Lesley discovers Laura purchased the statuette found in David's apartment but charged it to Lesley's account. Bobbie is angry at Scotty for trying to help Laura. Out to dinner, Jessie sees Lee having a drink. Jeff warns Heather to stay out of Peter and Diana's problems. Heather is beginning to resent the time Jeff spends studying with Steve for medical board. Although Howard is unattached, Tracy is interested in Gary, not Howard. A homesick Teri writes Jeff from Hawaii; Steve fears Teri's return because she is the only other person who knows he is really Jeff’s father. On the witness stand, Jeff admits David once had tried to seduce Lesley before he was murdered. Searching David's apartment, police find bits of Laura's love letter in his chandelier; police match it up with characters on Lesley's typewriter. Laura begins to feel she must tell police it was her push that caused David's death. Gina returns from Denver, plans to set up a research unit in Port Charles. Bobbie is displeased by Scotty's decision to room with young doctor Bryan Phillips, because of Bryan's alcoholic past, she says.  On the witness stand, Lesley claims she was David’s lover. Rick realizes Lesley is protecting Laura and plans to stop her. After nightmares about prison, Laura resists hypnosis Peter wants to use to help her remember what happened the night David was killed. Lesley is convicted of manslaughter and is remanded without bail until sentencing. Alan is leery of Monica and Rick’s close relationship. Tracy is egging Alan’s jealousy on. Fearing Rick knows she accidentally killed David, Laura runs away. Scotty believes she may be in New York trying to get lost in the East Village. Diana undergoes examination which uncovers a neurological disorder. Jeff feels he must tell Peter that Diana is ill. Bobbie flares up, again over Scotty's concern for Laura, although she's seeing orderly Chris Jergens on the sly. Tracy is fanning Alan's jealousy of Rick. Katie prepares to join Mark in Mexico. Gary is not totally pleased that Gina may have to spend time out of town working on her research project.

EON
Aug 1978

(by Jon-Michael Reed)

After throwing a fit before Logan, Raven teased Winter saying Raven was Logan’s first choice as a wife.  Tony secretly met with Raney who agreed to get rid of Mike, who was kidnapped.  Sheriff Hagen grilled April about her fingerprints on the syringe used to inject a drug overdose into Denise.  Steve relieved himself of Tony’s case because of Deborah. Bill lost track of Mike who had a tracer bug in his cane which Raney threw away.  Raney pushed Mike down a flight of stairs in a deserted warehouse, then collected a fee from Tony.  Raven accused Deborah of husband stealing when Raven found Deborah crying on Kevin’s shoulder about Deb’s father.  April continued to take pills and hear strange voices.  Mike was found unconscious and hospitalized with a concussion.  Raney tried to extort money from Saxon to keep quiet about Saxon’s business dealings.  Sheriff Hagen arrested April for the murder of Denise.  Carol was jealous of the warmth between Winter and Miles. Mike regained consciousness and named Raney as his assailant.  Raney showed Deborah proof of Tony’s illegal activities, then held her hostage as the police closed in.  After confessing to Geraldine, Tony planned to commit suicide.  The authorities decided to hold April’s trial in Monticello. Tony drew a gun on Raney while trying to convince him to give up holding Deborah hostage.  Raney shot Tony, then was shot himself by Steve while trying to escape.  Before he died, Tony told Geraldine he loved her.  Logan and Mike speculated that district attorney Ira Paulsen will be in a quandry whether to push for April’s first degree murder conviction since Ira wants to run for elective office.

(by Nancy Reichardt)

Raney Cooper, Mike's source for information on Tony Saxon's misdeeds, takes Mike for ride, throws away his cane – which has small transmitter in it so police can keep track of him. Arriving at a deserted hideaway, he pushes Mike out of the loft. Upset by negative police stories, Deborah refuses to let Nancy do any more stories on her as a Monticello policewoman. She knows her father is guilty of political crimes but doesn't want to think he would ever hurt Mike. Believing Raven's story that she - not Winter - was Logan's first choice, Winter calls off wedding.  April is arrested for the murder of Denise. Rescued from the deserted building, Mike tells police Raney was his abductor. Raney escapes. Tony confesses his wrongdoings to Geraldine. Deborah realizes her father Tony Saxon is corrupt. Cops close in on Raney while he holds Deborah hostage. At indictment for first-degree murder, April admits she hated Denise but swears she didn't kill her. Tony — his whole world collapsing because his daughter knows about him, because he is hurting Kevin's chances for election to the Senate — contemplates suicide. The newspapers call for Kevin to sever his connection with Tony. Tony Saxon rushes to an area where Raney is holding Deborah hostage. In a skirmish, Raney shoots Tony, but he is shot and killed trying to make getaway. Logan fears the D.A. will make him prosecute April — she is such a likeable person, the D.A.'s image would be tarnished whether she's found innocent or guilty. Kevin wonders if he should give up the senate race for Geraldine's sake.
